Professional Development via the Georgia Training Institute and the Rollins Center

All teachers at the Dunbar Learning Complex receive professional development in order to hone their skills and improve effectiveness. Sheltering Arms’s Georgia Training Institute provides at least 20 hours of professional development for each teacher, infant through preK. GTI topics include handling challenging behavior, child abuse and neglect, individualized intensive interventions, diversity, teaching preschool children to think they can problem solve in the classroom, disabilities and family partnerships, the promise of family support, prevention and early intervention, positive guidance, injury and disease control, communicating with skills and heart, quality care and how to measure it. The Rollins Center partnership provides a skilled literacy coach to work with teachers in preK through 2nd grade on implementing curriculums and evaluating progress.
